The Old City Center

This is the second City of Panama and was founded in 1673 after the destruction of the first one, now known as Old Panama, in 1671 by the pirate Henry Morgan. That is why the Old City was built with fortifications of big stone walls, and seven bastions to protect it against any more pirate attacks.

Within the city walls, religious, military and civilian buildings were constructed; many of which have been conserved up to now and can easily be visited by car or with a guide from your local travel agent.
