INTERPRETATIVE CENTER AND TOURISTIC FACILITIES OF PANAMA Known in Panama as CEFATIS, they constitute the most novel, modern and effective way of finding out in one place all about the range of services and tourist information in the region. When visiting a CEFATI you will find a well presented and impressive exhibition that portrays the local history and cultural traditions, besides the natural and cultural attractions with a clear and direct orientation for their enjoyment. Official information is available in these buildings regarding tourist services and the suitable handling of natural and cultural resources for the purpose of stimulating the realization of tourist activities, with a high sense of respect for their conservation. Recently two Centers of this type were inaugurated, the first one on Colon Island, Bocas del Toro, which presents an exhibition that describes the geologic event of the emersion of the Isthmus of Panama, the history of the first settlers, the origins of the banana industry and the City of Bocas del Toro, and the enchantments of nature and the Caribbean Sea that make this tourist zone so special. Diving and the snorkeling are activities you dream about and can practice near or within the Bastimento Island Marine National Park that also has to offer, magnificent white sand beaches. The second CEFATI, located in Chiriqui Province, specifically in the mountainous region of Boquete, is the center for the promotion and orientation of tourist activities in a tourist zone that combines landscapes of a pristine nature around the Baru Volcano and the International Amistad National Parks. Immersed within a landscape of flowers and fruits, it is a propitious site to savor a rich cup of coffee from the highlands observing the majestic Baru Volcano through its windows.These Centers were constructed with the technical collaboration of the Organization of the American States (O.A.S.) and the Panamanian Tourism Institute (IPAT). In the course of the year a variety of cultural and communitarian activities are carried providing for a rich and varied stay at the Bocas del Toro and Boquete Tourist Centers
