GENERAL INFORMATION
This center can be found at Punta Culebra, 4 kilometers (2.5 mi.) after the main entrance to the Calzada de Amador (Causeway) in Panama City and its main purpose is to share the knowledge. Promote the conservation of the marine life and ecosystems on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of the country.
It was founded in 1,960 by the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) on a site that used to be a World War II military complex that was there for the protection of the Panama Canal. Before that, it was used as a harbor for the old Panama City.

How to get there
You can rent a car, take a taxi or use a bus service (SACA) from downtown Panama to the entrance of the Causeway where you will find transportation to take you to the Exhibition Center.

What to do and Where to go?
The center offers permanent exhibitions about the physical aspects of Punta Culebra, the diversity of the marine organisms, Panama: wealth of fish, Turtles: Misterious Navigators, Projection's room and artistic exhibitions, Path of the dry Forests and the relationship between men and the sea and the coral reefs, where you can touch marine species from the Pacific as well as from the Caribbean. You can also watch the ships sailing through the Canal form an observation platform equipped with telescopes or take a relaxing walk through the woods on the small trails.
The bomb shelters are now being used for video presentations.
Of course there is a souvenir store, selling items that contribute to the upkeep of the Smithsonian (STRI).
The center is open from Tuesday to Friday from 13:00 to 17:00 and on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. The entrance fee is only 50 cents.
